 PARTS OF THE MOTHERBOARD

1. PS/2 PORTS - use to connect the mouse and the keyboard. 

2. VGA (Video Graphics Array) PORT - use to connect the monitor screen of the computer.

3. USB (Universal Serial Bus) PORT - ports of the USB devices of the computer.

4. AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) SLOT - a part of the computer that hold the computer's video card.

5. PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) SLOT - part of the computer motherboard that is used to connect the I/O cards of the computer.

6. IDE (Integrated Development Environment) CONNECTOR - use to connect the IDE cable of the HDD or CD/DVD ROM to the motherboard IDE.

7. DVI (Digital Visual Interface) PORT - it able to support both digital and analogue video signals over a single DVI cable and is commonly found on computers, LCD, monitors, projectors, and other digital display equipment.

8. HDMI (High Definitions Multimedia Interface) PORT - most frequently used HD signal for transferring both high definition audio and video over a single cable.

9. BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) CHIP - a ROM chip found on the motherboard that allows you to access and set up your computer system at the most basic level.

10. AUDIO PORTS - used to connect the speaker, microphone, and MIDI device of the computer.

11. MEMORY SLOTS - slot of computer memory or what we called RAM.

12. MODEM PORT - used to connect PC's modem to the telephone network.

13. FLOPPY PORT - used by the software to read the overall status information regarding the FDC IC and FDD's.

14. JUMPER PORT - configure the setting for computer peripherals, like the motherboard.

15. HEAT SINK - properly remove heat from device components to improve device performance and extend its life.

16. ATX 24-PIN CONNECTOR - main power connector that connects the PSU to the motherboard.

17. CPU PROCESSOR SACKET - used to connect a microprocessor with a printed circuit board PCB without soldering.

18. CPU (Central Processing Unit) - is the brain of a computer, containing all the circuitry needed to process input, output, and storage results.  

19. COMPUTER CASE - contains the major components of the computer. It helps protect them.

20. MONITOR - display  screen to provide "Output" to the user. It is where you view the information you are working on.

21.VIDEO CARD - connect the computer to the monitor. It is a circuit board attached to the motherboard that contains the memory and other circuitry necessary  to send information to the monitor for display on screen.

22.KEYBOARD - used to enter information into the computer  and for giving commands.

23.TOUCHPAD - pressure-sensitive and motion sensitive device used in place op a mouse.

24. CD ROM DRIVE - drive that plays CD and reads data that has been stored on the CD

25. CD (compact disk) - type of optical storage device.

26. FLOPPY DISK DRIVE - device that holds a removable floppy disk when in use, read, write heads read and write data to the diskette.

27. HARD DISK - magnetic storage device.

28. RAM (Random Access Memory) - a computer temporary memory which exist as chips on the motherboard near the CPU. It stores data or programs while they are being used and requires power.

29.PRINTER -  output device that produce a hard copy on paper. It gives information to the user in printed form.

30. BARCODE READER - input device that converts a pattern op printed bars into a number that a computer can read. They are often used by businesses to quickly input price and product information.

31. SCANNER - device that allows pictures to be placed into a computer.

32. MICROPHONE - alllows the user to record sound as input to their computer.

33. SPEAKER - used to generate or reproduce voice, music, and other sounds

34. SOUND CARD - connects the speakers and micropohone to the computer.

35. MODEM - place where the computer is connected to the phone line.

36. NETWORK CARD - circuit board that connects the computer to the rest of the network usually using special cables.
